Jim and his sister, Julie in 2003
Jim was born and raised in East Lansing, Michigan. He grew up surrounded by a loving family in a neighborhood full of kids, many of whom would become life-long friends. Jim and his sister were very close and adored each other. Sibling rivalry was never an issue for them.
Jim was a skilled skateboarder, an accomplished downhill skier, snowboarder, ice skater, and a natural at water sking, making growing up in Michigan with all it lakes and up north hills, an idyllic childhood. He grew up enjoying many family vacations that took him to places like Hawaii, Grand Cayman Island, Mexico, skiing in Utah and Colorado and camping extensively out West.
He graduated from East Lansing High School in 1999 and by 2003 decided to move to California, eventually settling in Las Vegas, Nevada where he made many friends. He worked at a couple different retail stores, his last position there being a waiter at Chili's.
In April of 2007, Jim had the wanderlust. His love for the beach, water and sunshine led him to finding a job as a waiter at a Chilis Restaurant in Aventura, Florida. He signed a one-year lease on a single floor apartment in N. Miami and settled in. After a year in Florida though he had decided that he missed his friends in Las Vegas - a place he had determined was home. He gave notice at both the restaurant and the apartment management office and made arrangements in Las Vegas to move in with a friend. He planned to drive to Las Vegas around the third week of April 2008.
Jim was invited to a party at a co-workers house after finishing his shift at Chili's on April 10, 2008. He left the party in the wee hours of the morning of April 11. He arrived home and assumably went to bed. At some point he was awakened and answered the door. It appears there was a fight, a fight Jim lost. He was brutally stabbed to death at his front door.
